Whole wheat bread (bread machine)

From Sarah and Kara's Recipes

This recipe is lifted directly from the manual for the Panasonic SD-YD250 bread bakery. It's a great bread machine that will not die, but that doesn't stop us from losing the manual over and over again.

  • 18 1/4 oz whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp "light" salt (50/50 sodium chloride/potassium chloride)
  • 2 tbsp nonfat dry milk powder (optional)
  • 2 tbsp salted butter or vegan margarine
  • 1 3/4 tbsp molasses
  • 12 1/4 oz water
  • 1 1/4 tsp yeast

Add all ingredients except yeast to pan (make sure the blade is inserted into the bottom of the pan and can move freely). Add yeast to dispenser on top of bread machine. Set bread machine to Mode: Wheat and Size: L

Take bread out of machine when completed and let rest on cooling rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Best results with King Arthur Flour brand whole wheat flour.

To make a white loaf, change settings to Mode: Bake; Size: Large; Crust: Mid. Substitute all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour, and substitute granulated sugar for molasses. All amounts stay the same.
